How to care for thinning hair
- Reflections Hair
If, like many of us, you suffer from thin or thinning hair, the 8 tips below will help to make the most of the hair you have today and help to ensure you have the healthiest scalp possible to encourage regrowth.
- Use a product adapted to your hair and scalp. Healthy hair starts with a healthy scalp, because it gives your hair the best possible foundation from which to grow. Reflections highly recommends the Nioxin Hair Care System.
- Shampoo your hair regularly but ONLY to remove build up of sweat and dirt - if your hair is clean, simply dont wash it or use a dry shampoo which will also add body.
- After shampooing, condition your hair to replenish the moisture and strengthen the hair. Hair dryness is a common problem that many women and men with textured hair struggle with, and if left unaddressed this can lead to extensive damage, breakage and thinning.
- If wearing hair curly in a ‘wash n go’ style, it is recommended to mist or wet the hair again with a leave-in conditioner up to 2-3 times per week.
- Avoid brushing hair when wet which helps prevent unnecessary breakage.
- Stress and hair loss can also be linked, so take some time out of your day to relax and de-stress.
- Keep fit and add healthy hair nutrition to your diet. Biotin (a B Vitamin) is essential for healthy hair as is selenium and zinc (speak to your Pharmacist for advice before taking supplements).
- Consider sleeping on a satin or silk pillowcase to avoid friction while sleeping.
Finally, book an appointment at Reflections to discuss your needs and create a style to suit your current hair - All wash appointments include a scalp massage to encourage oil distribution and stimulate the scalp. For more information on the Nioxin range of products, please speak to your Stylist.
